National Volunteer Week is from 20th to 26th May. There are 25,000 (MPShire ABS data) volunteers on the Mornington Peninsula, each making a positive contribution. Volunteering is a significant part of Australian society. It contributes to active participation in building strong, inclusive and resilient communities.
This year the Shire will be celebrating the work of the volunteers that make up the Committees of Management, Advisory Groups and Governing Boards of the Shire’s 12 Community Houses and the Community Information and Support Centres on the Mornington Peninsula with a morning tea at the Shire’s offices in Mornington on 22 May. Without the work of these volunteers these community services would not provide assistance and place based support in local areas and to some of our most vulnerable members of the community.
The Shire’s Mayor, Cr David Gill as well as Councillors will be in attendance and will present each of the committees with a certificate of appreciation.
Many organisations across the peninsula are also holding special events to say thank you to their volunteers during this week. The theme for National Volunteer Week in 2019 is, Making a World of Difference.
