Dunns Creek Landcare
To promote sustainable land use in the Dunns Creek catchment
We seek a person to monitor the firstname.lastname@example.org account. About once a week, forward on to the general membership (members are already collated under one tab) any emails from the Landcare network, or the Catchment Management Authority, or the Shire Landcare Facilitator.
Spam deleted, Party Political emails deleted. Anything else refer to the President before deleting. This is of interest to someone who believes in protecting the environment, to learn more about your community and to suggest ways to further the aims of Landcare.
The objectives of the group are to encourage land management practices that promote sustainable agriculture and sustainable land management. We have focused on tree planting and protecting remnant vegetation, salinity and drainage, ragwort and blackberries, rabbits and soil erosion. Early work included exchanging information and circulating fact sheets from the Department of Ag. and CMAs. We’ve had some major successes in these areas with roadside spraying of blackberry and ragwort, annual weeding of high conservation value roadside reserves, a group fox control program, and fencing off livestock from a section of Dunns Creek as well as removing the willows and replanting native vegetation. Over 1000 trees were planted on National Tree Planting Day in July 2019. Covid prevented us repeating that exercise in 2020.
The group currently has a membership of more than 25 properties in the Red Hill, Dromana, Safety Beach and Merricks North areas. We are a small, but active and sociable group. We have an occasional annual dinner and different speakers at our annual general meetings.
Happy to discuss
