Job Overview

The Day Trip Volunteer will primarily build positive relationships with young people. Volunteers will create a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere and encourage participation in programs. Success in the program means young people are connected to peers and adults, engaged in the programs, having fun, and learning. Participants may be from Fusion housing, school programs, employability programs or other Fusion missional work and networks.

Average hours:
1-day per month.

Days/times job is available: 
Saturdays, usually between 9am-5pm but times vary and are usually 6hrs total.

Responsibilities and Duties: 
Engage young people from communities experiencing disadvantage.
Follow all policy and Code of Conduct.
Assist in set up and pack down of activities (where required).
Assist in gathering people together for group activities.
Follow the direction of the coordinator / group leader.
Maintain confidentiality of any information disclosed in sessions.
Work within the guidelines of appropriate disclosure as discussed throughout briefings.
Refer all concerns regarding young people to coordinator/group leader, including reportable disclosures.
Create and promote a positive culture within the program through role modelling participation, encouragement, listening and feedback.
Look out for young people who are falling behind the activity, discussion, etc. and come alongside as per direction from group leader/coordinator.
Attend and engage with Fusion’s youth engagement training where required for the role.
Transport young people in personal vehicle or 12-seater van, as needed (desirable)

Skills and Experience:
Experience engaging with young people in structured programs.
Strong understanding of Child Safe Practices (this may be through Fusion’s training prior to commencement of any engagement with young people).
Ability to role model the values of justice, mercy, compassion, respect, and industry.
Ability to engage in physical activities where needed (desirable)

Mentoring and skills development.
Training from qualified youth workers in youth engagement, child safe practices and other industry knowledge.
Resume reference can be provided after 3 of months of quality engagement with Fusion’s programs.

Requirements of the job: 
Ability to work as part of a team
Drivers Licence (if asked to drive)
Working with Children’s Check (we can assist you to get one if needed).
