Protect & promote the rights of people with a disability

Community Visitors are the eyes and ears of the community. They visit either: group homes for people with a cognitive disability, mental health facilities or supported residential services (similar to boarding hostels). They speak to residents/patients to ensure that they are being treated with dignity and respect and that their human rights are being upheld.

Community Visitor volunteers visit services within their local community and visit in pairs.

At the end of a visit they write a short report detailing the findings of their visit.

This is a prominent volunteer role which is a Victorian Governor in Council appointment.

Training and reimbursement of expenses is provided.
