Do you want to make a difference in your local community and also hold a prominent volunteer role? Become a Community Visitor with the Office of the Public Advocate.

Community Visitor volunteers are the eyes and ears of the community and perform an important role of upholding the human rights of people with a cognitive disability and/or mental illness.

Community Visitors visit in pairs and visit facilities within their region.  They speak to residents/patients and enquire into the services that they are receiving.

Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills are required. The ability to contribute to a visit report is also required. This role is ideally suited to individuals who are available during day-time hours or late afternoons.

Access to your own transport to get to visits is required. (Travel expenses are reimbursed).

Training for this role is provided.

This is a challenging and rewarding role which is a formal Victorian Governor-in-Council appointment.
